Thursday, 24 April 2014 at the Radisson BLU, Glasgow

The first-ever Scottish Newspaper Society conference is a brand new centre-piece for the industry, taking place at a time of major changes.

Organised in association with First ScotRail, the conference will take place at the Radisson BLU Glasgow on the afternoon of 24 April and coincides with the 35th Scottish Press Awards at the same venue that evening.

With a new system of regulation about to come in and significant progress being made with digital platforms, the Scottish industry is gathering to debate the way forward.

Attended by editors and senior managers, the conference will discuss the new system of self-regulation, how success can be found in the digital age and whether the correct systems are in place to hold the powerful to account.

Speakers will include First Minister Alex Salmond, Lord Black of Brentwood, Professor Philip Schlessinger, Scottish Information Commissioner Rosemary Agnew,  CEO of DC Thomson Publishing Ellis Watson, Associate Editor at Edinburgh Evening News and Scottish Journalist of the Year 2013 Gina Davidson, Sunday Herald editor Richard Walker and director of digital development at the BIG Partnership Allan Barr.

There will also be a significant speech by a senior Scottish politician.

This is an important event for all media professionals for whom interaction with the Scottish Press is an essential part of their responsibilities.
